Recent research has found pharmaceutically active chemicals in municipal wastewater effluents. Since wastewater effluents impact drinking water and reclaimed water supplies, this is obviously of great concern. In order to gain a better understanding of the problem, Foundation convened an expert workshop to identify needed research. Two projects were funded: "Innovative DNA Array Technology for Detection of Pharmaceuticals in Aquatic Environments," #2785B, and "Use of Bioassays and Chemical Measurements to Assess the Removal of Endocrine-Disrupting Compounds in Water Reclamation Systems," #2785C. Both are partnerships with the Water Reuse Task Force.
