SUMMARY:
This report describes the nature and importance of the emerging treatment chemical supply issue for drinking water and wastewater utilities in the United States and United Kingdom. It describes what is known about the treatment chemical supply issue, identifies critical knowledge gaps and potential research needs, identifies important stakeholders and potential sources of information that can help inform and clarify the issue, and develops recommendations for next steps towards resolving or effectively managing the issue. This report can be used by the water and wastewater community to help develop strategies for addressing the treatment chemical supply issue.
In order to meet the U.K.’s PR’09 Final Business Plan submission deadline, this report was posted on the Water Research Foundation Web site in March of 2009. A fully edited printed report will be made available by the Water Research Foundation in the summer of 2009.
