Tailored Collaboration Program

This program enables utility subscribers interested in pursuing research of a specialized or regional nature to leverage their funding with Water Research Foundation funding. The program helps support utility-directed research and enables utilities to be directly involved in the research process. The program also gives subscribing utilities access to the Water Research Foundation independent review process, professional project management, and communication process. The Foundation annually reserves approximately fifteen percent of its research funds for the Tailored Collaboration Program.

Through the Tailored Collaboration Program, a utility subscriber or group of subscribers may submit a proposal to the Water Research Foundation for a research idea they have developed and, if the proposal is approved, obtain matching funds to support the work. Staff manages and oversees the project work and incorporates the research results into various knowledge management and transfer processes, including publication and dissemination of the final report or similar product to all Foundation subscribers.

Individual proposals submitted by utility subscribers are evaluated by a proposal-specific technical review committee consisting of technical experts in the proposal subject area. Proposals and technical review committee recommendations are then forwarded to the Tailored Collaboration Review Committee for final selection and funding.

Tailored Collaboration proposals may be submitted at any time during the year and are evaluated as they are received. Foundation utility subscribers interested in submitting a Tailored Collaboration proposal should refer to the tailored collaboration proposal guidelines.
